Swiss Post will launch in August its Crypto Stamp 2.0 in partnership with the Locarno Film Festival
On August 8, 2022, Swiss Post will launch the second generation of the swiss crypto stamps in collaboration with the Locarno Film Festival.
The first Swiss crypto stamp collection was released on November 25, 2021, and it was a huge success. The 175,000 stamps were sold out in five hours. The second generation will now be released on August 8, 2022, as Swiss Crypto Stamp 2.0
Swiss Post is re-connecting traditional stamp collecting with the digital world with this new crypto stamp. Like the original crypto stamp, the new edition will be divided into two sections.
The first section comprises ten actual stamps for nine francs, while the second provides the digital image for each stamp.
The crypto stamps and their digital twins are uniquely recognizable and preserved in a blockchain. They, like regular stamps, can be collected, swapped, and traded. For Swiss Crypto Stamp 2.0, 10 Swiss symbols have been interpreted by artists.
The ten distinct designs in this second crypto stamp collection represent various Swiss concepts, including solidarity, sustainability, peace, and variety.
When the ten designs are arranged next to each other, they form a larger picture. Swiss Post is launching Swiss Crypto Stamp 2.0 in collaboration with the Locarno Film Festival, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.
In honor of this occasion, Swiss filmmakers will create short film pieces that are digital representations of the crypto stamps that were inspired by the ideals and symbols seen on the actual stamps.
Customers will know the actual stamps and corresponding digital images they will receive as they make the purchase, unlike the first Swiss Crypto Stamp.
This time Swiss Post will organize a prize drawing for 50 copies of an exclusive digital version of the cryptocurrency stamp as an added bonus.
The updated Swiss Crypto Stamp is intended for emerging Swiss filmmakers. Swiss Post CEO Roberto Cirillo places a lot of importance on the association with the Locarno Film Festival:
“In partnership with the Locarno Film Festival, we are connecting the world of stamps and the world of film to a unique product. By creating the film clips, we wanted to support young, up-and-coming artists and provide them with a new platform.”
Marco Solari, president of the Locarno Film Festival stated that,
“Following the Swiss National Bank, which in 2017 selected the Locarno Film Festival to appear on the 20-franc banknote as a symbol of Switzerland’s creativity, Swiss Post is also showing its ties to our cultural event once again.
He further said that,
It has previously released a stamp to mark the festival’s 70th anniversary, featuring the classic image of the Locarno leopard. Swiss Post has been a sponsor and partner of the film festival for many years. By releasing the crypto stamp, it is also showing that it believes in the future development of our festival.”
A total of 250,000 Swiss Crypto Stamp 2.0 stamps will be printed and released on August 8, 2022. Each of the ten distinct designs will have 25,000 stamps. At a few Swiss Post locations, the crypto stamps will be physically available as of this day. Customers can also place orders for them online at postshop.ch and at any independently-run Swiss Post office.
