Switzerland’s first digital stamp will be available before 2021 finishes — an enormous innovation regarding crypto
Before the year ends, the Swiss Post will launch an unusual but revolutionary stamp, the Swiss Crypto Stamp, which aims to link the physical and the virtual realities through philately.
Crypto stamps have two parts: the usual self-adhesive physical stamp and its “digital copy” stored in blockchain. The Swiss Post will offer 13 different designs for Switzerland’s first crypto stamps. However, the first one illustrates the Matterhorn and the moon on a blue background.
The physical side of Swiss Crypto Stamps will operate as a regular stamp allowing citizens to direct postal items. Additionally, philatelists will not know what design they will receive when purchasing a crypto stamp. Therefore, it will be surprising for owners to discover via QR the digital counterpart of their physical post stamp. Collecting, exchanging, and trading stamps will join the digital world.
The Swiss Post will launch 175,000 copies of its first crypto stamps on November 25, 2021, at selected Swiss Post branches and by their official website.
