Switzerland declares US data protection inadequate to meet Swiss requirements
Thursday, 10 September, 2020
The Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner decided that the level of protection offered by the CH-US privacy shield is not enough to guarantee people in Switzerland adequate levels of data security. The USA is no longer listed among countries with “adequate data protection” but it has no impact on the Privacy Shield regime. Switzerland's assessment is in line with the recent ruling of the Court of Justice of the European Union, which saw US data protection levels as insufficient to meet the EU data protection requirements.
