On November 1, 2021, Urban Angehrn takes over as FINMA’s Director

The administrative board of the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority FINMA has elected Urban Angehrn as the new director. The Federal Council convened a meeting to make that choice. Urban Angehrn will take up the job on November 1, 2021.

Urban Angehrn will take over as Director of FINMA on November 1, 2021. The Federal Council approved the method for the election of the FINMA Board of Directors.

"FINMA gained an experienced leader with wide national and international financial industry expertise in insurance, banking, and asset management with the appointment of Urban Angehrn. He is also well-versed in future themes such as digitization and sustainability, both of which will significantly impact the financial sector "President of the FINMA Board of Directors Marlene Amstad states.

Urban Angehrn is Chairman of the Zurich Life Insurance Company's Board of Directors and Chairman of the Zurich Insurance Group's Pension Fund's Board of Trustees. He is also the Group Chief Investment Officer and a member of the Zurich Insurance Group's Executive Committee. He has been with Zurich for over 14 years and has previously worked in various positions at Winterthur, Credit Suisse First Boston, and JP Morgan. Urban Angehrn graduated from Harvard University with a Ph.D. in mathematics and a master's degree in theoretical physics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. It's a fantastic resume for the job.
